About the Festival:
The NigerianAmerican Multicultural Center (NAMC), in partnership with other African communities in Houston, is planning its 2nd Festival of African Arts, Culture and Entertainment (F.A.A.C.E.)in Houston, Texas. This festival is the only one of its kind in Houston for the African Community. The event will showcase the rich and diverse cultures of African countries. It will feature a variety of entertainment including music concerts, games, fashion shows, ethnic food and kids activities from multiple African countries. The festival will attract people of all ages and backgrounds. It will be a forum to celebrate and recognize the critical relationships between the United States and African nations.
Purpose:
The objective of F.A.A.C.E. is to introduce and connect Houstonians to the People, Arts and Culture of Africa by bringing all groups of African descent together to share our culture with the Houston community. NAMC believes that by sharing our culture with other Houstonians, we can spotlight the positive values of Africa and shake the negative narrative that creates a flawed misunderstanding, of the rich and diverse cultures of the African continent. NAMC, representing the most populous country in SubSaharan Africa, Nigeria, sees it as a privilege to lead this initiative – bridging cultures not only across Nigeria, but Africa. With this festival, we are celebrating the rich traditions of African and North American Culture, Arts and Economy, while building long term relationships and presence in the United States of America with the construction of a NAMC building.
